Part of a 150-year-old cottage, this extension was designed around the way the family truly lives and loves to entertain. This cottage extension creates a generous new kitchen, dining and social space, as well as a spacious shower room, while transforming the arrival experience at the rear of the home. The addition seamlessly connects the existing cottage with its former garage, creating a more spacious and sociable home.
The brief was to create a welcoming hub for family and friends, with generous glazing bringing natural light and views into the new spaces. A striking glazed gable forms a new entrance, leading into the expansive kitchen-dining area, while bifold doors open directly onto the patio, extending the living space outdoors.
Careful reconfiguration of the original cottage allows the new addition to flow naturally through to the original home. The former kitchen becomes a generous utility, the dining room a sitting room, and a new accessible shower room in the addition serves both family and visitors. A separate triple garage with first-floor storage was also approved as part of the wider scheme.
