This bungalow extension was designed to create a generous kitchen, living and dining hub — a space large enough to comfortably host the client’s growing extended family. With the original home having sentimental value, having been built by previous generations, it was important to enhance the property for modern living without compromising its character. A carefully considered addition offered the perfect solution, respecting the existing structure while delivering the extra space the family needed.

With a beautiful garden wrapping around the home, the extension was orientated to make the most of the outlook and connect indoors with outdoors, especially during the summer months when grandchildren are playing outside. A double-height glazed gable end floods the interior with natural light and frames views of the garden, creating a bright, airy space that changes with the seasons.

Bi-fold doors and a wrap-around terrace extend the living area further, providing an effortless transition for alfresco dining and family gatherings. Within the open-plan layout, subtle zoning helps define the kitchen, dining and living areas without sacrificing the sense of openness. Each space has its own function, yet they flow seamlessly together, supporting both everyday routines and larger social occasions. The result is a thoughtful and uplifting addition that honours the original home while making it better suited to modern family life.
